| In 1990, Siemens opened its very
first local office in Tunisia. It occupies a leading
position in the areas of Information and Communications,
Transportation, Power as well as Automation and Control.
The company is one of the largest suppliers on the Tunisian
market in the area of Information and Communications
and it ranks second in the field of Transportation.
One major project in this field is the placement of
140 light rail vehicles into service on eight lines
in Tunis. This complete system is a unique reference
project in Africa. In fiscal 2005 (October 1, 2004 -
September 30, 2005), sales to customers in Tunisia amounted
to more than EUR 70 million. New orders totaled nearly
EUR 59 million. Siemens currently has more than 110
employees in Tunisia.

As a major supplier for Tunisiana, the first
private mobile operator in Tunisia, Communications
(Com) has equipped one million new lines in the
GSM networks and installed all the components
needed to set up new services such as GPRS (General
Packet Radio Service). Com continues to expand
the fixed network for Tunisie Telecom and is supplying
new management and control systems. |

The recently merged Power Transmission and Distribution
(PTD) and VA Technologie AG (VA Tech) has been
awarded an important bid to supply and install
high voltage systems. |
Siemens started operating in Tunisia in the 1930s
through local agents. In 1990, Siemens opened its
very first local office concentrating on Communications
and business and IT technology. Last year, the company
expanded its activities covering the business areas
of Automation and Control, Power and Transportation
in addition to Information and Communications. On
the occasion of its 15th anniversary this year, the
company changed its name to Siemens Tunisia.
In parallel, Siemens has developed export activities,
operating as a technical center of competence in a
separate company named Siemens Communications Competence
Center, which has off-shore status. Geographically,
this Siemens competence center covers the entire MEA
region. It will double its workforce to 90 employees
at the end of 2005.
